What is Prostate Cancer?

Almost all prostate cancers are adenocarcinomas, which is a cancer that forms in a gland and can spread to other areas of the body. Other types of cancer that can start in the prostate include:

  • Small cell carcinomas
  • Neuroendocrine tumors (other than small cell carcinomas)
  • Transitional cell carcinomas
  • Sarcomas

According to the American Cancer Society, other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men.1 In 2023, It is estimated that about 288,000 new cases will be diagnosed.
